The Toronto Blue Jays have some big decisions to make coming up and it looks like outfielder Steward Berroa might be done in Toronto.

The non-tender deadline has passed as many players across the league have become free agents over the last 48 hours which means teams are now looking at their 40 man roster and seeing who will be designated for assignment.

The Blue Jays seem to be looking to designate Steward Berroa for assignment

Toronto outfielder Steward Berroa put up solid numbers in the minors with a .281 batting average and .371 on base percentage including 10 homeruns but his numbers were not as good in the majors.
In 2024, Berroa saw some time in the majors but failed to impress which has landed him on the bubble for the Blue Jays keeping him on the 40 man roster for the 2025 season.
If the Blue Jays decide to take Berroa off the 40 man roster, they will have to designate him for assignment to send him down to the minor since he is out of minor league options meaning he will need to clear waivers first.
In the minor leagues, outfielder Steward Berroa had a career year, slashing .281/.371/.454 with 10 home runs in 300 plate appearances, with an 11.7 BB% and a 23.7 K%. Moreover, he stole 34 bases in 42 attempts. However, he didn't have the same success in the big leagues, slashing .189/.333/.216 with no home runs in 45 plate appearances. Defensively, he was strong as he finished the year with 3 Defensive Runs Saved and Outs Above Average. The Blue Jays could probably get away with sneaking him through waivers. -Delaney

There is a chance that the Blue Jays might be able to get away with sneaking Berroa through waivers but there is a stronger possibly that another team picks him up as he has shown some promise, especially defensively.
Berroa is not the only player that the Blue Jays need to look at in terms of their 40 man roster, as many players such as Tommy Nance and Easton Lucas might be hitting waivers shortly as well.
