The Blue Jays seem to be closing in on a contract extension with Bo Bichette
The Blue Jays have two of their best players in Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr heading into the last season of their contract and while Guerrero does not want to negotiate during the season, Bichette on the other hand seems open to it.
According to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuters, the Blue Jays are expected to make Bichette an offer than will likely be a 3-4 year contract keeping him in Toronto until at least the 2029 season.
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted that Bichette would remain in Toronto through at least 2029, but in 2028, he would shift to second base, which makes sense given his poor defensive metrics at shortstop. -Roberts
Reuters also added that the Blue Jays might look to move Bichette over the second base and have Andres Gimenez at shortstop since Gimenez is much better defensively than Bichette.
Adding to the complication, the Blue Jays traded for former Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez in December, a Platinum Glove second baseman who has long been speculated to take over a team's shortstop job in a pinch. -Roberts
The Blue Jays decision on bringing Bichette back and for how much will depend on how he he starts the season and if he ends up bouncing back from his poor play last year.
First, though, the Jays need Bichette to rebound to his career norms at the plate in 2025, then make the decision to return to Toronto. -Roberts
If Bichette is able to return to the player he once was, there is a good chance he lands a sizeable deal.
