The Blue Jays projected offer to free agent Pete Alonso has been announced
The Blue Jays are in desperate need of an offensive player which is why it seems to be one of their top priorities this off-season as they need a threat at the plate to pair with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The Blue Jays have been very interested in free agent Pete Alonso and a recent report announced that an offer for him should be around 5 years for $105 million which would put him at $25 million annually.
MLB Trade Rumours has predicted a five-year, $125 million deal for the slugger which has him coming in at a $25 million AAV. -Prasad
Alonso put up very solid numbers in 2024 for the Mets with 34 homeruns, 88 RBIs, a .240 batting average and .329 on base percentage while also consistently hitting over 30 homeruns in every full season.
In 2024, Alonso posted a .240/.329/.459 slash line and a .788 OPS, which is a slight dip from his normal numbers, but he continues to be consistent in the home run category. He collected 34 round-trippers last season with the Mets and added 88 RBIs - the lowest total of his career. -Prasad
While the Blue Jays have been linked to quite a few hitters this off-season, none of them have been more consistent at the plate than Alonso but he does come with a few complications.
The issue is that if the Blue Jays do sign Alonso, they will need to move Guerrero over to third base which means they will have nowhere for Ernie Clement's to play meaning he will likely be traded.
While Alonso would be a great option, at this point the fans would be willing to take any solid hitter as the team needs offense.
