The Toronto Blue Jays currently have a depth issue within their bullpen as the team has made several moves over the past couple of days to try to resolve their troubles.
The team has enjoyed stellar pitching from there starting rotation up until Easton Lucas' departure and the work of closer Jeff Hoffman which has put the Blue Jays near the top of Major League Baseball with starting pitching stats.
Blue Jays make several roster moves to help bullpen
Over the past couple of days, the Blue Jays have had to make several moves within their pitching roster to overcome the loss of Nick Sandlin who was placed on the IL for 15 days due to a right lat strain.
The team also recalled right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate, and Paxton Schultz from Buffalo who relieved Easton Lucas disastrous game against the Mariners with four innings worked, no earned runs and eight strikeouts.
The team also designated right-handed pitcher Jacob Barnes for assignment as he has struggled over the past couple of games.
Yariel Rodriguez has calmed down after a rough start to the year and has allowed just one run over his last 6 1/3 innings, but both of his past two appearances have been multi-inning affairs. While it's great to have him as a multi-inning weapon, it also means that you can't have him go back-to-back days. - Henry Palattella
Max Scherzer's thumb issue continues to plague the Blue Jays
These issues coupled with the ongoing trouble with Max Scherzer's thumb which required a second cortisone shot a few days ago has given manager John Schneider much to think about and to juggle his players to overcome the loss.
With Easton Lucas heading back to Buffalo due to his lackluster two starts, the Jays will now also face some trouble in their starting rotation which will put strain on the depth of the bullpen even more.
The Blue Jays will have to overcome these setbacks and face their first adversity of the season as they continue their series against the Houston Astros and then play the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
