The Blue Jays have decided to non-tender pitcher Jordan Romano
Romano was a non-tender candidate heading into tonight's deadline with a projected contract of $7.75 million if they did end up offering him a deal which is a lot of money for a pitcher that has such an uncertain future.
MLB reporter Ben Nicholson-Smith announced an hour before the non-tender deadline that the Blue Jays have decide to non-tender Romano which means he will be heading to free agency.
Blue Jays are non-tendering Jordan Romano, source confirms @JeffPassan to me and @ShiDavidi
The Toronto Blue Jays non-tendered closer Jordan Romano, sources tell ESPN. The two-time All-Star, who is 31, will be a free agent.
The team could still end up bringing Romano back next season if they agree to a new deal with him as a free agent which would likely be on a 2-3 year term but for less money annually.
Fans will be sad to see him go if this is truly the end for Romano in Toronto but it looks like many fans agree with the move.
