Things were looking grim for Pillar earlier on this season as it appeared he may have been destined to play his last season in the big leagues. The former Jays' "superman" performed poorly with terrible averages across the board for the Chicago White Sox - hitting a meager .170 through a total of 17 games.
In a pivotal point in his baseball career, the Los Angeles Angels took a massive gamble on Pillar. The Angels signed him to a one year deal where Pillar would try to turn his luck around on the west coast. Since being acquired by the Angels, Pilllar has materialized as one of the hottest hitters in the majors.
Although the Angels season is quite easily compared to the Blue Jays' struggles, who are sitting a grim 20-33 record, Pillar has found a new home with the Angels finding himself in a position to contribute in key moments. The 35 year old has proven that despite age and poor play, given right opportunity may help change the course of a season.
