The Toronto Blue Jays ended up missing out on of their top free agents targets in Blake Snell as he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday but it seems to have freed up some room for them to go after former player Teoscar Hernandez.
The Blue Jays had their eyes on Blake Snell in free agency and not that he has signed a deal with the Dodgers worth $182 million over 5 years, they will look to place that money elsewhere.
The Blue Jays looking to offer Teoscar Hernandez a contract not that Blake Snell has signed with the Dodger
According to reports, the Blue Jays are still seriously looking into signing a power hitter this off-season which is why there have been rumors of them making an offer to their former outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
Reporter Caleb Moody of Just Baseball stated that the Blue Jays would be a perfect fit for the Blue Jays since he loved his time here and they could afford his projected contract.
"A return of Hernández would certainly give the Blue Jays the spark they need in the outfield, as their outfield unit struggled at the plate in 2024, sitting 26th in wRC+ at 85 and 28th in OPS at .645," Moody said.
Moody added that signing a solid hitter like Hernandez would take a ton of pressure of Vladimir Guerrero Jr if they decide to offer him a contract extension since he would not be forced to be the only solid hitter on the team.
"A lot of times last season it seemed as though Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was the only consistent contributor atop that Blue Jays lineup. Hernández would do a lot to ensure that Vladdy gets some consistent support up there, especially with the uncertainty around what type of performance the Jays will get from Bo Bichette at the plate moving forward."
While the Blue Jays still need to look into signing a pitcher to help with their starting rotation, signing a hitter like Hernandez might be the next best move after missing out on Snell.
