Rays steal player player from the Blue Jays due to ridiculous league rules
Blue Jays fans are not happy with the rules of the MLB draft after it cost the team a value pick that the Rays took instead.
The Rays picked ahead of the Blue Jays this year despite finishing last season with 10 more wins because both teams lost in the Wild Card round but Tampa has a lower revenue ceiling so they got to pick ahead.
Since the Ray got to pick ahead, they chose catcher Nathan Flewelling with the 94th pick, when the Blue Jays were up next and had extensively scouted Flewelling all season long.
A good reminder that the MLB Draft order is absolutely fucked. The Rays, who won 99 games last year, are picking in front of the Jays (who won 89 games) because they both lost in the WC round and Tampa has lower revenue ceiling. Just insanely stupid.
If you look at the big picture, it is strange that a team that was much more successful last season somehow was picking ahead of a weaker team without having to trade to acquire that pick.
