This is an incredible trade by the Yankees after losing Clay Holmes as Williams is without a doubt one of the best relief pitchers in the MLB when healthy and despite missing half the 2024 season with a back injury, he still put up incredible numbers.
This trade is unfortunate for the Blue Jays because if they were able to land Williams, it would have given them more flexibility to go after more average relief pitchers to fill out the rest of the bullpen.
While the Blue Jays have been linked to hitters like Teoscar Hernandez and starting pitchers like Corbin Burnes, it seems that they have quieted down on the bullpen pitcher front which is something to worry about.
The Blue Jays desperately need bullpen pitchers and if they leave it until the last minute, they will end up with another awful bullpen in 2025.
