29-year-old Nathan Lukes has finally got another shot in the major leagues this season with the Toronto Blue Jays and is showing that he has no intent to be sent down after his dominant offensive ability.
Being a journeyman in the minors is no easy task, but Lukes is proving to everyone, especially the Jays organization that he is ready for a bigger role even in his short time.
In 3 games for the Jays this season he is hitting a ridiculous .455/.571/.727 with a All-star caliber 1.299 OPS.
In 14 plate appearances as the Jays' starting left fielder, Lukes is 5-for-11 with a double and a triple counted among his hits. He has struck out just once and while he went 0-for-2 in his last game
Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman commented on his quick impact on the team and the special ability he posses to give the Jays a bright future.
«Shows up, this is his first day here and, really, made two great plays,» Kevin Gausman said after Lukes' two grabs in support of the Toronto starter, per Sportsnet's David Singh. «That's the type of player he is. That's the game that he brings - exceptional defender. It's always nice when you can bring a guy up and he can make a play like that.»
The Jays a re fueled with a huge amount of depth and the outfield position, but if he keeps hitting and making insane defensive plays like he has been, he will solidify his spot in the starting lineup in no time.
