MLB insider Buster Olney takes a shot at the Blue Jays for the size of Anthony Santander's contract
The majority of Toronto was extremely happy that the Blue Jays were finally able to get a deal done with Santander as he will bring a ton of offense with him and they feel like they did not overpay.
During an interview on TSN's 1st Up, Buster Olney stated that he feels that this was an overpay which he thinks was the only way that the Blue Jays could land Santander and added that they will be regretting this contract in 6-8 months.
"It could be a contract that in 6 to 8 months they'd be looking to get out of"
The Blue Jays gave us some positive news as they signed Anthony Santander, but @Buster_ESPN explained why the contract could backfire on the Jays. Do you agree with Olney? Let us know!
This is a hot take since Santander has put up incredible numbers over the last few seasons and paying him $18.5 million per season seems like a fair deal, especially when comparing it to some of the other deals being signed this winter.
While $92.5 million is a lot of money, Santander will be one of the Blue Jays best players next season and will barely crack the top 5 in largest contracts on their current roster.
Olney has been taking a ton of heat online since making his comments as Blue Jays fans believe that Ross Atkins finally made a deal that will drastically improve the team.
