Vladimir Guerrero Jr is not the only Toronto Blue Jays star going into the last year of his contract as Bo Bichette is in the same position and president Mark Shapiro spoke on the situation this morning.
Mark Shapiro speaks on negotiations with Bo Bichette
Bichette is entering a big season in 2025 as many believe that he is set to be the AL comeback player of the year since he has been putting up incredible number so far in Spring Training.
During a recent interview, Shapiro stated that Bichette is the player he is the most excited to watch this season due to how much he has matured but when asked about his upcoming contract Shapiro refused to give any comment on an on-going negotiation.
Asked Shapiro how the club views Bo Bichette: "The player I'm most excited to watch.. I look at him, his maturation, his trajectory, he has the determination.. When he's at his best, he is a winning player that can help us win.
Would not comment on potential extension talks.
Bichette at the start of Spring Training mentioned during an interview that the Blue Jays had yet to reach out regarding a contract extension but seeing how he is playing right now and Shapiro's answers this morning, it looks like that has changed.
Letting Bichette walk at the end of the season seems like it would be a huge mistake for the team with how well he has been playing and how much he has done for the Blue Jays over his career despite a tough 2024 season.
It will be interesting to see how everything with Bichette and Guerrero end up playing out this season.
