The Blue Jays have now pivoted after missing out on a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr to try and add some last minute talent before the start of the season as they completed a few signings in the last 10 days.
The Cubs DFA Alex Canario which the Blue Jays might look at acquiring
The Cubs announced they have DFA'd Canario to make room on their roster for former Blue Jays third baseman Justin Turner who they signed to a one year deal worth $6 million.
Cubs, INF/DH Justin Turner reportedly agree to deal, per multiple reports including @MLBNetwork insider @JonHeyman
According to reports the Toronto Blue Jays tried to trade Danny Jansen to the Cubs in exchange for Alexander Canario but were rejected at the trade deadline last season.
Needing room on the roster for Justin Turner, the Cubs have DFA'd OF Alexander Canario, sources tell ESPN. Canario is a good trade candidate. He never got a real shot in Chicago, playing in just 21 big league games.
The Blue Jays asked for Alex Canario in trade talks with the Cubs for Danny Jansen at last years trade deadline.
I would take a flier here as a platoon bat with Loperfido in a corner OF spot.
The Blue Jays might look into acquiring Canario since they were interested by him last season and since he is still so young and has not been given much of a chance in the majors, this could end up being a great move for the Blue Jays.
Wouldn't hate the Jays taking a flier on Alexander Canario. Has tools, is young. Why not?
