The Toronto Blue Jays have been working diligently over the past couple of weeks to sign free agent Pete Alonso to a contract and according to former general manager of the New York Mets Steve Phillips, he feels the two parties are a great fit.

"If they get [Pete Alonso], you can start to dream a little bit about this team. I think it's a great fit." - @StevePhillipsGM on the Blue Jays

During an episode of the MLB Network, Phillips feels that the Blue Jays are a perfect landing spot for Alonso as the team has shown great interest, including upping their offer to make it more enticing for him to sign.

Other Blue Jays pundits hinted that Alnoso has short list of teams

Another baseball insider Keegan Matheson explains that the market is small for Alonso and that the Blue Jays have a better chance of signing him than the New York Mets.
"Pete Alonso's market -- and some of the reporting around it -- has been ... unique. Yes, the Blue Jays like Alonso, but this continues to feel like a situation where Alonso is waiting for the Mets. Like they've done many times in past pursuits, the Blue Jays can position themselves well as the next-best option here."

"It may be enough in the end, but my eyes are still on the Mets. Adding Alonso to this lineup on a three- or four-year deal would be quite an upgrade for the Blue Jays. If any team has the money to steal the slugger from the Mets, it's the Blue Jays," - Keegan Matheson added.
When it comes to taxes, Toronto may be the best choice for Pete Alonso.

Blue Jays need to get Alonso under contract

Last week, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins made it clear that signing Alonso was a priority for the organization as the Blue Jays continue to improve their roster by signing players like Alonso and potentially Alex Bregman as the team wants to compete for the American League East and the World Series.
With two weeks remaining prior to Spring Training, the race will be on for the Blue Jays to get this deal done or other potential deals as they would like to round out the roster and prepare for grapefruit league.
