Last night the MLB announced that former Toronto Blue Jays player and World Series champion Dave Winfield has been named a finalist for the Curt Flood award.
Winfield had an impressive career which spanned across 22 seasons as he was a 12 time all-star, 7 time Gold Glove winner and World Series champion in 1992 with the Toronto Blue Jays during his only season in Toronto before heading to Minnesota the next season.
Hall of Famer Dave Winfield named a finalist for the Curt Flood award
Winfield racked up a ton of awards throughout his playing career as a dominant hitter and outfielder which led him to the Hall of Fame in 2001. Even close to 30 years after retiring, Winfield is still up for MLB awards as he was named finalist for the Curt Flood award last night.
Congratulations to Dave Winfield on being named a Curt Flood Award Finalist - given to a former player who demonstrates devotion to the @MLBPA and advancement of Players' rights!
The Curt Flood award is given to a former player who demonstrates the most devotion to the Major League Baseball Player Association and advancement of player's rights.
Winfield is currently the special assistant to the executive director of the Major League Baseball Player's Association as he continues to fight for player's right across the league.
This would be the first time Winfield wins an award in retirement even though he has spent more than 30 years retired from the game.
Winfield has had an impressive life as he has been recognized as a legend on and off the field which this award nomination clearly proves.
