Unfortunate news was announced last night for former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza who will likely get bumped off the Yankees World Series roster.
The former Blue Jays pitcher has been on the Yankees roster over the last two series and even pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in the 2024 playoffs for them but it looks like he unfortunately might not be on the World Series roster.
Former Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza likely getting bumped off of World Series roster
Yankees manager Aaron Boone mentioned in a interview yesterday that pitcher Nestor Cortes has a decent chance of being on the Yankees World Series roster after not pitching since September 18th due to an injury.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone on if Nestor Cortes will be on the World Series roster:
"I would say there is a decent chance that he could be on the roster, yes."
Since Cortes is coming back from injury, they will likely not have him as a starting pitcher but will work him into the bullpen which would end up popping Mayza out of his roster spot.
If Boone wants to keep the right-handed Stroman, he could also bump former Jays hurler Tim Mayza. The 32-year-old went 0-2 with a 6.33 ERA in 50 games this season. He has thrown 1.1 scoreless innings in these playoffs. If this were the case, Cortes would pair with Tim Hill as lefties in the Yanks bullpen. -Farkas
While Mayza might not end up getting a roster spot, he has still had an incredible turn around this season going from being DFA'd to in the World Series.
