Former Toronto Blue Jays player Kevin Pillar took to social media today to announce that he had successful thumb surgery despite not being sure if he will play again next season.
The Los Angeles Angels decided to sign Kevin Pillar to a contract after Mike Trout had a season ending injury and the move end up being one of the most underrated transactions of the season. Pillar had an unbelievable year on a terrible Angels team and proved that he could still play.
At the end of the season, Pillar was dealing with a hand injury on his throwing arm which is why he decided to get surgery a the start of the off-season as he is still unsure if he will return next year.
Successful thumb surgery this morning. Big thanks to Dr Shin
It's a big day for Kevin Pillar, who reached 10 years of service time. His pension is now fully vested. Fewer than 10 percent of MLB players reach 10 years of service time. He wore a suit to the ballpark.
Kevin Pillar Likely To Retire Following 2024 Season
Clearly Pillar can still play as it was on full display this season and could likely help out a young team compete next season if he decides to return but will certainly not be signing a massive contract in the off-season.
