Alek Manoah has been trying to make a comeback from shoulder inflammation, however, he hit a setback after an awful outing with the Dunedin Blue Jays.

According to MLB.com, Manoah played just under two innings, and threw 58 pitches. During that time, he gave up a total of seven runs and four walks. He even hit a batter in the process. This is the worst-case scenario for Manoah, who had a truly awful 2023 season in which he went 3-9 and had an ERA over 5. Manoah was in Dunedin with Erik Swanson, who was also on a rehab stint.
It is believed that Manoah could end up staying in Dunedin until he is ready for Triple-A. This is certainly not the status update that the Blue Jays were hoping for. Instead, they wanted to see real progress, and a return to that 2022 form in which Manoah was in the running for the Cy Young.
"Blue Jays Notes: Romano, Jansen, Serven, Manoah"
As for the Blue Jays in Toronto, they lost to the New York Yankees on Sunday by a score of 8-3. They have now fallen to 4-6 on the season, and things haven't been looking great. That said, there is still an opportunity for them to get back in the win column with a heavy slate of games this week.
Today, the Toronto Blue Jays will have their season opener against the Seattle Mariners. The game is going to begin at 7PM Eastern Standard Time, and if you are in Canada, you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
