There is no denying that this is going to be a massive season for the Toronto Blue Jays. Heading into Opening Day on Thursday, they will be trying to shake off the bad juju from last year. Following a heartbreaking loss in the Wild Card round to the Minnesota Twins, one would assume this team is ready to come back with a vengeance. One player that fans want to see a lot from, is none other than Vladimir Guerrero Jr. After notching 48 home runs in 2021, his production has steadily declined. In 2022, he had 32 homers, while notching 26 in 2023.
Despite this decline in production, Guerrero Jr. is on the cusp of etching his way into the Blue Jays' history books. With 130 home runs, he is 11th on the team's all-time Home Runs list. He can tie Ernie Whitt for 10th with just one more homer.
If Vlad were to have a breakout year where he hits 50 home runs, he would surpass Jesse Barfield for seventh on the all-time Blue Jays home run list. At the top of this list is Carlos Delgado with 336 home runs. At 25 years old, Guerrero Jr. certainly has plenty of time to chase down that number-one spot. If he does, he would go down as one of if not the best Blue Jays player ever.
Guerrero Jr. will have an opportunity to start his season with a bang on Thursday as the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the Opening Day game. Fans in Toronto will get their first glimpse of him at the Rogers Center on Monday, April 8th against the Seattle Mariners.
