The Toronto Blue Jays have quite a few former players headed to the World Series but also have former pitchers Roberto Osuna and Anthony Kay headed to the Nippon Professional Baseball finals in Japan.
With the Jays, Kay posted a 5.48 ERA through 70 2/3 innings and struggled to carve a spot in either the rotation or the bullpen while riding the options bus for most of the seasons he spent with Toronto. When the Jays signed Chris Bassitt during the 2022/2023 offseason, Kay was designated for assignment. -Shushkewich
Osuna on the other hand had a much more memorable time in Toronto as he was one of their top closers during their incredible 2015 and 2016 season before being traded to Houston in 2018. Osuna has been in the NPB with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks since 2023 and was the team's primary closer this season putting up great numbers.
This season, Osuna authored a 3.76 ERA through 39 appearances while working as the SoftBank Hawks primary closer. Osuna has pitched to a single-season career low 5.4 K/9 and owns a 1.200 WHIP heading into the Japan Series. -Shushkewich
The two former Blue Jays pitchers are set to kick things off this week in the NPB finals.
