With the dust settling and the new season up on the Blue Jays in the coming weeks, there have been whispers that Vladimir Guerrero junior is linked and interested with the Toronto Blue Jays American League East archrival the Boston Red Sox.
These whispers have been coming from several pundits across the Major League Baseball including Bob Nightingale of USA TODAY Sports that he has heard Guerrero junior has spoke to some friends stating he has some interest in going to Boston.
Guerrero JR has stated all teams will have a chance to speak with him
During a recent interview with the New York post's Jon Heyman, Guerrero Jr explained that he is willing to let all 30 Major League Baseball teams have a chance to speak with him when free agency opens after the season is over.
«If I go to free agency, every team - all 30 teams - are going to have the opportunity to sit down with (me), to talk to me," Guerrero said.
It isn't much of a surprise that certain teams have surfaced over the past couple of days as the news spread around Major League Baseball that the Blue Jays and Guerrero junior were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension as his self-imposed contract deadline had passed.
It's no secret that Vladimir Guerrero has told friends that if he hits free agency, he'd love to play for the Boston Red Sox. Free agency begins in 8 1/2 months as Guerrero officially enters spring without a contract extension.
Arms race continues across Major League Baseball
These two past off seasons have been a form of an arms race between many of the richer baseball clubs throughout the league as teams continue to pluck expensive free agents who continued to drive the price up and put other teams out of contention for their services.
Many felt that the Blue Jays had an opportunity to land one of those high-priced players in Guerrero junior himself as the team had the opportunity to negotiate a certain price that they could afford or willing to pay.
The Red Sox should go all-in on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The Blue Jays had a rather disappointing offseason as they had struck out several times with many prominent free agents including Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman and Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki.
It will be extremely disheartening to fans if the Blue Jays cannot sign Guerrero Junior to a contract and especially see him standing beside the green monster in Boston.
