Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke to the media regarding Max Scherzer's first start with the team and made some interesting comments about his behavior.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider comments on Max Scherzer not liking to high five teammates when he is pitching
Most athletes are known for being quite superstitious with hockey goalies and MLB pitchers being at the top of the list with their weird way of going about things and it looks like Scherzer is no different.
After Scherzer's first game with the Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated the team realized that he is not a fan of giving high fives when returning to the dugout in between innings.
"We kinda realized on the fly he [Scherzer] doesn't really like giving high fives on the way in."
John Schneider on Max Scherzer's debut
«We realized on the fly that he (Scherzer) doesn't really like to give high-fives on the way in» -John Schneider
Asked if he tried to
«I learned from others who went for it, and didn't get a response .. I went about my day, and made the adjustment in the second (inning)»
This clearly has nothing to do with Scherzer not liking his teammates but it is clearly just a superstition that when he is in the zone and pitching, he likes to remain focused and not hand out any high fives.
Well whatever Scherzer's superstitions are, they clearly work as he is one of the best pitchers in the MLB over the past 20 years.
