The Toronto Blue Jays have been dealing with a lot of injured pitchers so far in Spring Training and manager John Schneider finally gave a positive update regarding Erik Swanson.
John Schneider announces injury update on Erik Swanson
Swanson showed up late to Spring Training due to an injury he got during the off-season and ended up hurting himself again in camp but the MRI results showed that there has no structural damage.
Manager John Schneider told Hazel Mae this afternoon that Swanson is set to start throwing again on Wednesday or Thursday and will slowly start to ramp up from there.
Erik Swanson (forearm) update: John Schneider said Swanson is going to start throwing Wednesday or Thursday, and then have a «normal-ish, maybe a little bit of an accelerated ramp up, similar to what you do at the start of spring training.»
While it is good news for the Blue Jays bullpen that Swanson is getting back to throwing, it looks like there is a solid chance that he ends up missing the start of the season.
If Swanson does not end up being ready for Opening Day, the Blue Jays added Richard Lovelady to their 40 man roster who is now competing for a spot on the 26 man roster and they also signed Justin Bruihl a few days ago as well.
The Blue Jays bullpen is currently in a tough situation but the good news is that none of the injuries seem to be too serious for now which means everyone in the bullpen should be healthy in a few weeks.
