The Toronto Blue Jays are already looking to build around franchise superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. after signing him to a 14-year, $500 million contract on Monday.
Among the recent signings, the Blue Jays are eyeing to bring in $120 million Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman.
Jackson Roberts from The Sporting News writes that after avoiding a huge free-agency scare, the Blue Jays can now shift their attention on building around Guerrero Jr. while making a playoff push this season.
For instance, how will the Blue Jays attack free agency this winter? Bo Bichette could very well be gone, so however they reconfigure things, Toronto could be in search of another infielder--perhaps one with a superstar pedigree. -Roberts
On Monday, FanSided's Chris Landers urged the Blue Jays to pursue Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency to create a "dream lineup" around Guerrero in 2026. -Roberts
The Blue Jays have already shown interest in Alex Bregman this past offseason so there's a good chance they'll attempt to sign him at the end of the season.
The odds might not be great that Bregman opts out of $80 million over two years, but they're still going up with each big offensive game he has. Sure, Fenway Park is the best possible offensive fit for him, but he'll still go elsewhere if there's more money to be had. -Roberts
Plus, if the Blue Jays could steal their division rivals' newest star player just as the fan base was coming to love him, while creating strife by taking away the player the Red Sox moved Rafael Devers off third base for, they'd surely reap extra benefits. - Roberts
This could be massive for the Blue Jays if they are able to pair Guerrero and Bregman for the next few years.
