The Toronto Blue Jays are in need of some pitchers and they seem to be interested in a few options including former Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi.
The top free agent pitchers on the board are attracting a lot of attention this off-season with a few already off the board in Blake Snell who signed with the Dodgers and Luis Severino who sign with the Oakland Athletics.
The Blue Jays are interested in former Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi
The Blue Jays are in need of a starting pitcher and according to MLB insider Jim Bowden, they are interested in former Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi who became a free agent this winter.
"The Blue Jays are struggling to persuade free agents to come to Toronto. As badly as they want position players, they are also pursuing starting pitchers. Enter Eovaldi, who would fit nicely in their already strong rotation," wrote Bowden. "They'll probably have to give him one more year than the rest of the industry to land him, but he's worth it, even heading into his age-35 season." -Bowden
According to Bowden, the Blue Jays offer for Eovaldi would be around a 3 year deal worth $70 million paying him $23.3 million per season and he believes Toronto would have to give him one more year than other competing teams to attract him here.
While other current free agent pitchers such as Corbin Burnes and Max Fried that the Blue Jays have show interest in are much stronger options, Eovaldi could be a decent consistent pitcher on a short term deal.
Last season with the Rangers, Eovaldi had a 3.80 ERA in 170.2 innings pitched while striking out 166 batters to go along with a 12-8 record which proves he is consistent and has yet to be injured since the 2020 season.
He is by no means an ace, but he has a 3.76 ERA over the last four seasons in 106 starts. The Blue Jays would likely pursue an arm like Max Fried or Corbin Burnes as well, but Eovaldi could go a long way in bringing depth to the rotation. -Mohammed
While Eovaldi might not e the Blue Jays top option, his consistency on the mound and ability to remain healthy cannot be overlooked as they are two things that the Blue Jays can benefit from after their 2024 season.
