The Blue Jays currently have one of the worst fam systems in the MLB as they ranked 27th in the entire league heading into the 2025 season which is why they have continued to sign young players to try and improve that ranking.
The Blue Jays announce that they have signed Cuban pitcher Cristhian Duarte
The Blue Jays announced last night that they signed 17 year old pitcher Cristhian Duarte to a contract which includes a $150,000 signing bonus and he becomes the 22nd Cuban on this international class to be signed.
Cuban pitcher Cristhian Duarte (17) has officially signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. Bonus deal: $150,000.
Cristhian arrived in the Dominican Republic in 2023.
He becomes the 22nd Cuban-born player to sign during the current 2024-2025 international period.
This is a good move by the Blue Jays as they need to try and find more young pitchers to bring up through their organizations so that in the future they do not get stuck in situations like they are in right now due to injuries.
Since Duarte is only 17 years old, fans will get to see him develop over the next few years and hopefully this signing turns into something good for the Blue Jays down the line.
