The Blue Jays have decided to DFA catcher Nick Raposo
The Blue Jays announced yesterday that they have decided to DFA catcher Nick Raposo as they needed to make room on their 40 man roster which means he is now headed for waivers.
The team announced a two-year, $15 million deal with reliever Yimi Garcia on Friday, while designating catcher Nick Raposo for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster. -Sportsnet
Raposo had a tough 2024 season as he was DFA'd by the St Louis Cardinals in August which resulted in him being pick up off waivers by the Blue Jays the same day but his struggled continue in Buffalo.
In Triple-A last season, Raposo had 8 homeruns and 33 RBIS in 78 games with a .206 batting average and .280 on base percentage which is why the Blue Jays have decided to take him off their 40 man roster.
Raposo, 26, was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays from the St. Louis Cardinals in August.
The catcher, who has yet to make his MLB debut, played 78 games across the minors last season and hit eight home runs while slashing .206/.280/.340. -Sportsnet
There is a solid chance that Raposo stays with the Blue Jays organization as many believe he will clear waivers since no other team will be willing to give him a 40 man roster spot.
While this move makes sense since the Blue Jays needed a roster spot, it is also a risky move since Raposo could be picked up and the Blue Jays already have no depth at the catcher position.
