Vladimir Guerrero Jr and the Toronto Blue Jays seem to be headed into territory that will only make the team look bad as all negotiation situations look bad.

Despite the Blue Jays and Guerrero announcing at the start of Spring Training that the two parties were unable to reach an agreement when it came to a contract extension, it has continued to be the biggest story in camp.

The Blue Jays are headed toward a no-win situation with Guerrero

Guerrero recently stated in an interview that he is ideally seeking a 20 year contract but would be willing to come down to 14-15 years for the Blue Jays which they do not seem too interested in.
«I'm looking for 14 (years). I would like 14, 15, even 20 if they give them to me, but doing it the right way.» -Guerrero

The Blue Jays are now in an impossible situation as they will look bad no matter what ends up happening with Guerrero.
If the team ends up signing Guerrero this season, it will clearly state that they gave in to his demands and will likely have to overpay to keep him in Toronto.
However this ends up, the Jays look ridiculous. If they manage to sign Guerrero mid-season, we'll know they lost. And they will absolutely have to lose in order to secure him. -Kelly

On the other hand, they could let him walk into free agency where he will most likely end up somewhere else in which will make the Blue Jays look cheap as they were unwilling to offer him his asking price.
If they don't sign him and he signs somewhere else for more, they look cheap. If they don't sign him and he signs elsewhere for less, they look like crap negotiators. -Kelly

Regardless of the option the Blue Jays decide to take, they will end up looking bad if the eyes of the fan base which is why this is a lose-lose situation.
Since they will look bad regardless, it seems like there best option is to simply give in to his demands and overpay since they might give him a lot of money but at least they will be able to hold onto to their superstar for a long time.
