The Toronto Blue Jays rookie Spencer Horwitz opened up in an interview with David Singh yesterday regarding his battle with mental health over the years.

Horwitz opened up about how the first time he had an anxiety attack he was playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League and thought in the moment he was having a heart attack.
The Blue Jays rookie admitted that this almost pushed him out of baseball as he felt he could not go on playing while dealing with these issues but he ended up battling through which paid off in a great way.
«I think the hardest part was not knowing what was happening,» Horowitz says now. He's relaying the story during a late-August conversation in the Toronto Blue Jays' dugout at Rogers Centre, sitting on the bench during batting practice in a sleeveless shirt and his uniform pants. The 26-year-old doesn't seem upset while reliving that night in Chatham and the terror he felt. For one thing, he's spent years working to understand it. For another, he now knows the larger impact sharing his experiences with anxiety can have. -Singh

Horwitz continues to battle with anxiety every day but has found a way to cope with it which is how he has been able to focus on baseball. He also added that he wanted to bring light on the subject, not for attention but hopes that opening up will bring some good into the world.
«I don't want anyone to think I'm doing this for attention,» Horwitz says. «I'm doing it because I have felt it personally and I've seen it. People deal with it, and I just feel like I want to bring a little good to the world.»

On top of that, during a game in Chicago this year, Horwitz wore green cleats and used a green bat in support on mental health awareness clearly showing that this an important subject for him.
