The Toronto Blue Jays missed out on yet again another superstar last night as free agent Pete Alonso decided to sign two year deal with the New York Mets.

The Mets announced last night that that they agreed to a two year deal with Pete Alonso worth $54 million which will pay him $30 million in the first season and $24 million in the second season plus a $10 million signing bonus.
Breaking: Pete Alonso is returning to the Mets. $54M, 2 years, $10M signing bonus

Pete Alonso wanted no part in signing with the Blue Jays after they made the highest offer and still missed out on him

The Blue Jays have had a rough off-season as they have gone after some of the biggest names on the free agent market but have continuously failed to lock them down despite making them the biggest offers.
Alonso was offered the most money by the Blue Jays as they apparently offered him a three year deal at $71 million yet he chose to take a smaller deal and return to New York instead.
Sources: #BlueJays confirmed had the largest offer for Pete Alonso. #Mets presented this newly structured deal to Pete Alonso this week.

Pete clearly wanted to be back with #Mets. #BlueJays lose out on yet another guy, a guy whom they very much thought they were going to get.

Not sure if they pivot now to Bregman or not. Think priority as always will be to try and lock Vladdy Jr up. #MoccBomb
This proves that the Blue Jays have bigger issues than just money for right now as they have made very solid offers to free agents such as Alonso, Corbin Burnes and Juan Soto but have failed to sign any of them.
The Blue Jays must not try to figure out this issue and hope that they can somehow land Alex Bregman.
If the Blue Jays cannot figure out a way to land Bregman, the majority of fans will consider this off-season a failure especially if they do not re-sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr..
