The Toronto Blue Jays 2024 season has been an all around disappointment despite achieving some kind of success in the second half of the season.
Some big changes are needed this off-season including some big help when it comes to pitching rotation and the bullpen.
Despite many believing that GM Ross Atkins is not going anywhere anytime soon, it looks like he will be under a lot of pressure to deliver this off-season. Last winter, Atkins spent all of his focus on free agent Shohei Ohtani which back fired as he would sign with the Dodgers at the end of free agency leaving Atkins with very few options it terms of signing players.
Atkins will need to make some big moves in terms of signing players this winter if he plans of keeping his job for the 2025 season.
The front office will be under intense pressure this off-season before the competitive window with the current nucleus starts to close.
Atkins has been on the job as GM for almost nine years. The Blue Jays' only playoff victories in that time came in 2016 when they reached the ALCS with a squad largely assembled by predecessor Alex Anthopoulos.
The Blue Jays missed out on two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani last year. Another big swing at a top free agent - think Juan Soto or Alex Bregman - is likely needed this fall.
There are some serious superstars on the free agency board this year in Alex Bregman and Juan Soto but if Atkins spends all of his time of these and ends up with nothing again, his job will be in jeopardy.
