The Blue Jays' offer to Vladdy Jr. was made before Juan Soto signed with the Mets.
Many believe that if the Blue Jays would have settled the contract negotiations earlier, they would have likely gotten a hometown discount but since they kept Guerrero in the dark for so long, he now wants what he is worth.
Since Soto signed for $765 million, Guerrero's value has skyrocketed as he will able to land around $500 million next off-season if he holds out and enters free agency instead of signing an extension now.
Atkins seems to have missed his window and will now have to pay full price for Guerrero if he wants to keep him in Toronto.
