Like I said, I'm never turning on World Series champion, Alex Bregman. You don't have to love him to hate him is weirdo behavior.
This move would be the last attempt for the Blue Jays to try to land a perennial star to their team in an effort to show Vladimir Guerrero Jr that they're serious and that they would like him to sign a long term contract.
Bregman would bring All Star pedigree to Blue Jays infield
"This is the splash the Blue Jays have been trying to make for a couple of years," Jennings wrote.
"Bregman is a better fit - both short-term and long-term - than (Pete) Alonso would have been, and he would give the Blue Jays one of the best infields in all of baseball alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Andrés Giménez.
Bregman is basically the biggest move any team could make, and the Blue Jays are as motivated as anyone to make it." Chad Jennings
It was reported by Jennings coworker, Tim Britton that they project a 7 year deal worth $189 million would get the job done an it's coming down to the Houston Astros and the Blue Jays as potential landing spots for Bregman.
Alex Bregman is one of the best in the business, all around. Bat. Glove. Arm. Situational awareness. Clubhouse. You can put a price on it. Worth going above and beyond. That's what he does.
Bregman won his first career Gold Glove last season, hitting 26 home runs and compiling a .768 OPS even after a long slump to begin the year.
He's entering his age-31 season, so there's definite risk to signing him long-term, but the Blue Jays have to be comfortable assuming risks at this point. Jackson Roberts
Offseason has been unusual for Ross Atkins and the Blue Jays
General manager Ross Atkins along with President Mark Shapiro have been working all offseason to make the Blue Jays a better ball club.
They've had some success in landing some key players including Max Scherzer, Anthony Santander, Jeff Hoffman and Andres Gimenez.
ATKINS SPEAKS! On Max Scherzer, finishing touches, rotation depth, the Vladdy Question, Yariel, Giménez, WAR, and more!
But they've also come up short as they lost out to Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Roki Sasaki. It's safe to say that both men would like to wrap up this offseason as soon as possible preferably with Bregman to a new deal and Guerrero Jr.
Time will tell if any of this is possible, and Blue Jays fans will need to wait and see what their team will finally look like when it's all said and done.
