The Toronto Blue Jays still have a ton of moves that need to be made this off-season and it looks like third baseman Ernie Clement might be part of it as he is one of their top trade chips.
The Blue Jays are focused on adding offense, bringing in a solid starting pitcher, replenishing their bullpen and adding an outfielder which is why Ross Atkins still has a lot of work to do.
Blue Jays looking to possibly trade third baseman Ernie Clement
The Blue Jays have quite a few missing pieces and as the free agent market is starting to bb depleted, thy need to start looking at trade options which is why Ernie Clement's name has been coming up.
Clement has a ton of trade value after his great season at third base and while Blue Jays would likely no move him simply just to trade him, they might look into it if the return is solid enough and would fill one of their current gaps.
There is no doubt that the infielder's trade value is at the highest and the Blue Jays would certainly be able to get at least one or two hopeful prospects back if they were to trade him this offseason although he seems less likely than the rest of the prospects on the trade wire.
The Blue Jays will likely keep Clement around even if they make some acquisitions to add to the infield just because of his versatility but the Jays may leverage him in a package deal if they find a player they really desire - especially for the bullpen. -Chung
If the Blue Jays end up bringing in a first baseman to help with their offense like Pete Alonso and move Vladimir Guerrero Jr to third base, they will certainly look to trade Clement as they will no longer have use for him.
Clement has proven in 2024 that he can be an everyday player in the MLB which is why the Blue Jays can use him in a package to get a solid relief pitcher or outfielder.
Blue Jays fans would love to see Clement stay in Toronto as he has become quite a fan favorite but if they are able to land a solid player in return their will surely be zero complaints.
Despite making a few moves this week, Atkin still has a lot to do this off-season as the Blue Jays will miss the playoffs once again next season if he does bring in at least one big time player.
