The Blue Jays announced that Justin Lehr will be the pitching director
News broke today, first reported by Sportsnet Shi Davidi who announced that Lehr would be taking on the role of pitching director for the Blue Jays heading into the 2025 season.
The Blue Jays are hiring Justin Lehr to oversee their minor-league pitching, according to two industry sources. Not sure of exact title.
Lehr had been the Giants' pitching co-ordinator on the player-development side.
Justin Lehr's title will be pitching director.
There has not been a ton of news on Lehr apart from the fact that he was with the San Francisco Giants last year as a pitching coordinator which means that he will be taking on a bigger role with the Blue Jays this year. He also played in the MLB for 5 years across 4 different teams before being hired by the Giants in 2020.
Lehr is likely to be a big part of pitcher development for the Blue Jays as pitching director which seems to be an issue over the last few years with many Blue Jays pitching prospects not living up to expectations and dealing with injuries such as top prospect Ricky Tiedemann.
It will be interesting to see how these new coaches with the Blue Jays do in 2025 and if there impact will be immediately noticeable on the field.
