The Blue Jays signed hometown hero Joey Votto to a minor league deal last off-season in which most fans were hopping he would end up in Toronto but ended up retiring.

Fans believed the Blue Jays should have brought him up during their series against the Reds but it seems like Votto felt differently.
Votto was on Foul Territory yesterday and spoke of his time with the Blue Jays organization praising them for how they treated him and helped with his injury.
Joey Votto is on Foul Territory with Rosenthal right now and it's funny to hear his words about the Jays org throughout the year and when it came time to retire compared to the whining about the missed "easy PR win" from fans/media who were far too excited to bad faith it all.
"my responsibility is to the major league fan and to me...I have to look at the mirror everyday...the communication [with the org] was that I don't want to come up unless I can showcase on stage, unless I can perform well, entertain, and avoid embarrassment."

The former MVP mentioned how he did not want to be called up unless he deserved it which he did not believe he did and thought he was no longer a good player which is why he decided to retire.
While it would have been fun to see Votto in a Blue Jays uniform, it clearly was not the right move for the organization.
