Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins pointed out during the end of the year press conference that homeruns is not how you win games in the post season which has aged terribly.
When asked about the Blue Jays adding offense this winter, Atkins told reporters that the team is not necessarily looking at power but are more focus on player getting on base as he believes homeruns do not win games in the post-season.
Yankees and Dodgers putting Ross Atkins to shame regarding his homeruns comment
While Atkins believes that homeruns do not win teams baseball game in the playoffs, the Dodgers and Yankees proved that Atkins is quite wrong in his way of thinking since 6 of the 9 runs scored in game 1 of the World Series came directly from homeruns.
ESPN just had a graphic that says teams win ~85% of their post season games when they out HR their opponent.
Ross Atkins said yesterday that HRs are not how you win games in the post season.
Hopefully Atkins is paying close attention to the playoffs this year and will have his mind swayed as the numbers prove that his way of thinking is flawed. There is also the fact that Atkins has no idea what it takes to win in the playoffs since he has never done it himself.
