The Toronto Blue Jays have been rumored to be shopping Bo Bichette this off-season and if they trade him they will have a long list of skilled shortstops waiting to be signed if they can make the right offer.
Bichette had a rough season with the Blue Jays in 2024 between struggling at the plate and dealing with multiple injuries which is why Toronto is looking to move him before the start of the 2025 season.
Blue Jays have a ton of great options in terms of free agent shortstops to sign this off-season
The best shortstop on the market heading into free agents is without a doubt Brewers Willy Adames who is coming off an incredible season with 32 homeruns and 112 RBIs to go along with his great defensive game.
2024 stats: .251/.331/.462, 32 HR, 112 RBI, 21 SB, 173 SO, 74 BB (161 games) It's an intriguing option, and we weighed the pros and cons of signing Adames here. He has plenty of pop and adds value as an above-average defender. The downside? His lackluster numbers against left-handed pitching. -Leger
Another great options would be Padres Ha-seong Kim who does have a $7 million option heading into 2025 but he will likely decline it and head for free agency. While he is not as great of a hitter as Adames, Kim is an unbelievable fielder that could help the Blue Jays a lot.
Despite that, he'll likely test the free agent market for a multi-year deal as one of the top middle infielders available. He's a stellar defender at shortstop, second base, and third base. -leger
The Blue Jays also can solve these issues internally if the end up trading Bichette as Ernie Clement could take over at shortstop but they would need to find a solution for third base if he ends up moving over.
If the Blue Jays end up going the free agent route, there is also Miguel Rojas, Jose Iglesias and Kiki Hernandez who could be solid options for the Blue Jays.
