Former Toronto Blue Jays and current Boston Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen spoke on a podcast prior to the loss yesterday about what went wrong in Toronto this year.

The Blue Jays traded Jansen at the trade deadline to the Boston Red Sox as he was set to become a free agent at the end of the season and it looked like Toronto did not plan on re-signing him.
Jansen was on The Deep Left Field podcast yesterday and spoke of how disappointing the 2024 season was in Toronto as no one expected it to go as poorly as it did in the first half of the season.
«You go into a season, you're not expecting to have a subpar first half,» the Jays' longtime catcher said before Wednesday's series finale, in a conversation that can be heard on this week's episode of «Deep Left Field,» the Star's baseball podcast.
«As players, we obviously didn't want that, but that's just how baseball goes sometimes ... Some things just didn't work out.»

Clearly Jansen wanted to stay in Toronto but as the season continued to go down hill, he had a feeling he was going to be traded.
The former Blue Jays catcher also spoke of how great Alejandro Kirk has been since Jansen left.
«Kirky's my guy,» Jansen said with a big smile. «I've been through a lot with Kirk, seen him develop and grow into the player that he is. He's just an outstanding dude, an outstanding player.»

Jansen lastly spoke of how great it was to return to Toronto and receive a standing ovation from the fans to go along with an incredible video that he was happy he got to share with his entire family.
«They wanted to come back and see everybody from before, see the tribute video and stuff like that,» said Jansen. «It was a special moment that I got to share with my family that I'll never forget.»
