The Toronto Blue Jays have been trying to figure out who will replace Max Scherzer in the starting rotation and according to John Schneider they are still not sure who will step in.
The Blue Jays recently announced that Scherzer was being put on IL for at least 15 days as he is trying to figure out how to fix his thumb injury before returning to the mound.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider speaks on possibly having Yariel Rodriguez take over for Max Scherzer
The Blue Jays have been looking at a bunch of options as to who can replace Scherzer which Rodriguez is one of them but they are still unsure if taking him out of the bullpen is the right move.
Rodriguez struggled as a starting pitcher last season and after a brilliant performance out of the bullpen last night, Schneider said that they are still unsure if they want to put him back into the starting rotation.
«You don't want to overreact to one outing, but we know that's in there,» Schneider said. «That's been there in his career before. We're still trying to figure out the best way to use that.
Is it in the 'pen or is it starting? If it's starting, can he do that for a shorter amount of time? But that was a pretty good inning of work.» -Schneider
Rodriguez came into the game last night for the Blue Jays to seal the deal against the Nationals and Schneider stated that it was the best inning he has seen from Rodriguez so far in his MLB career.
«That was, in my opinion, his best professional inning,» manager John Schneider said before Monday's 5-2 win over the Nationals. «That was pretty damn good.» -Schneider
Clearly with all the issues the Blue Jays bullpen has been having, Schneider is probably leaning towards keeping Rodriguez in the bullpen especially with all the injuries they currently have.
