Burnes is coming off of an incredible 2024 seaosn where he posted a 15-9 record with a 2.92 ERA and in 181 strikeouts in 194 innings pitched which is why he is arguably the best pitcher on the open market this winter.
Burnes is one of the premier starting pitchers on the free-agent market. The 30-year-old spent the 2024 campaign with the Baltimore Orioles, posting a 15-9 record with a 2.92 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 181 strikeouts across 194 1/3 innings. -Goldberg
The Blue Jays are looking to improve their rotation for next seaosn but when looking past 2025, they had a ton of pitcher on expiring contracts over the next 2 years which is why locking down an ace long term could be beneficial for the future of the team.
Bassitt is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of 2025, while Gausman's contract expires following the 2026 campaign. Berrios can also opt out of the final two years of his seven-year deal at the conclusion of the 2026 season. -Goldberg
Adding Burnes to the Blue Jays projected rotation for next season will surely put them at the top of the American League in terms of rotation, especially if Bowden Francis is able to build off of last season.
