The St Louis Cardinals are in the process of rebuilding their team which is why the have made everyone available including closer Ryan Helsley who is drawing a ton of attention, especially from the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays have been linked to multiple relief pitchers this off-season as they are still looking for their main closer to replace Jordan Romano who they non-tendered earlier this winter.
Trade talks between the Cardinals and Blue Jays are heating up for Ryan Helsley
The Cardinals are focus on bringing in young players for the 2025 season as they start their rebuild which is why they let Paul Goldscmidt walk this off-season while they are also looking to trade Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley.
Must read on Blue Jays Insider
According to reports, the Blue Jays are among one of the teams very interested in
Helsley since their bullpen is in desperate need of some help and there are few pitchers better at closing a game than
Helsley.
As the Cardinals eye a reset focused on younger players in 2025, Mark Feinsand, John Denton, and Bryan Hoch of MLB.com report that the club has received interest from the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks regarding closer Ryan Helsley. -Deeds
While the Blue Jays are interested they are far from the only team as the Arizona Diamondbacks seem to be very interested in adding the Cardinals all-star closer as well.
While some believe that the Cardinals are all in on parting way with
Helsley, others believe that the Cardinals will hold onto him for the 2025 even if he could bring them back some solid young players.
That apparent disinclination to deal Helsley meshes with a report from earlier this month that characterized St. Louis as unlikely to part ways with Helsley this winter, with president of baseball operations John Mozeliak suggesting at the time that they plan on Helsley remaining with the team for 2025. -Deeds
If the Cardinals do end up willing to trade
Helsley, the Blue Jays should jump on the opportunity right away as he would singlehandedly improve their bullpen.
