Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough is officially off of the team's 40 man roster as his contract has ended and he is now a free agent.
Yarbrough was acquired at the trade deadline for outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and while most fans saw this as a meaningless trade, Yarbrough ended up putting up great numbers with the Blue Jays finishing the season with a 3.19 ERA.
Pitcher Ryan Yarbrough is officially no longer on the Blue Jays 40 man roster
The World Series ended last night which had put an end to the 2024 season meaning players on expiring contracts are now free agents which includes pitcher Ryan Yarbrough. Despite players officially becoming free agents today, they are not allowed to officially sign with a team until 5 days after the World Series has ended.
Free agency begins for eligible players, but they aren't permitted to sign with other teams for at least five days. Free agents no longer count against their previous teams' 40-man rosters. Trades of players who were on the 40-man roster reopen for the first time since last summer's deadline. -Farkas
After many trades were made at the deadline this year by Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins, Yarbrough was the only player on Toronto's 40 man roster heading to free agency.
Since Toronto is looking to put together a better bullpen for the 2025 season, offering the 32 year old pitcher a short term contract to have him return to Toronto would not be such a bad idea.
