Mark Shapiro, Ross Atkins and Vladimir Guerrero Jr all met with the media this morning to discuss how they were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension.
Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro completely embarrassed himself when talking about failing to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr
Shapiro was the last of the three to talk to reporters about
the Blue Jays being unable to sign
Guerrero to an extension and it was not a pretty sight to say the least as his excuses were over the top.
The Blue Jays president stated that they were emotional after not being able to sign Guerrero and that they even went over budget with an offer to try and land him while also adding that they care deeply about him.
Mark Shapiro on the #BlueJays' negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr:
«We were emotional. We did value the player deeply, and even went past our value because we cared so deeply about him and wanted to have him here.»
These excuses are almost unheard of in the world of baseball as it is not often that you hear the president of a team state that the team was emotional after no signing a player because they care so much about him.

At the end of the day these were simply all excuses because if the Blue Jays were serious about signing Guerrero, they would have met his asking price and gotten a deal done.
Unfortunately, fans will likely have to watch Guerrero play for another team next season since the chances of him coming back to Toronto after all of this are slim to say the least.
