There has been much debate about whether the Blue Jays management made the right decision giving up Catcher Prospect Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. for Daulton Varsho. After looking at the stats, it seems The Jays won this trade hands down.
In almost half the amount of at bats by Daulton Varsho, he has outperformed both Gurriel and Moreno since joining the Blue Jays. This also doesn't include his amazing defensive glove manning the outfield.
His wins above replacement is higher, and he has 150 more points in OPS than both of them combined. Defensively, he outshines them too, with 10 more defensive runs saved.
On the left: Daulton Varsho. On the right: Moreno + Gurriel.
It's frustrating this isn't talked about more, as Varsho is excelling this season, but fans and media around the league only want to focus on his slow 2023 campaign.
The Blue Jays have clearly won this trade and it isn't even up for discussion.
