The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for help in their infield this off-season which is why they are seriously taking a look at free agent Yoan Moncada.
The Blue Jays have a ton of infielders on their current 40 man roster but non that seem to fit the bill as a full time starter which is why they have been seriously looking at signing another infielder.
The Blue Jays are interested in signing free agent Yoan Moncada
Morcada is coming off a rough year in Chicago as he was part of one of the worst teams in MLB history and also struggled with injuries only playing in 12 games this season.
Though Moncada is primarily a third baseman, he is also capable of playing second should the situation call for it. The 29-year-old, who has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, appeared in just 12 games this past season, hitting .275 with five walks and a stolen base.
His best year to date came in 2019, where he hit an impressive .315 with 25 home runs and 75 RBIs in 132 games. -Pankiw
The Blue Jays have focused on defense over offense in recent years and unfortunately it did not do well for them, especially when they decided to trade Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners.
Despite the Blue Jays' reported interest in Moncada, however, it remains to be seen how much pull their front office actually has. ESPN's Buster Olney has reported that Ross Atkins and crew are gaining a not-so-great reputation among other front offices across the MLB. -Pankiw
While the Blue Jays seem to be looking at a ton of infielders this off-season, Moncada should definitely be at the bottom of the list.
