The Toronto Blue Jays might skip arbitration and offer pitcher Jordan Romano a new contract

The Toronto Blue Jays have until November 22nd to decide on what to do with pitcher Jordan Romano as that is when the MLB's arbitration non-tender deadline is.
Romano is coming off a terrible season where he made $7.75 million but only pitched for 13.2 innings with a 6.59 ERA while dealing with an elbow injury that sidelined him for the majority of the season.
The Blue Jays might look into offering pitcher Jordan Romano a new deal
Romano is projected to make $7.75 million once again if the Blue Jays decide to tender a contract which seems like a lot of money for a pitcher they are uncertain about.
If the Blue Jays decide to non-tender Romano, the could end up bringing him back on a reformed deal instead of letting him walk since there is always the possibility that he returns from injury to the pitcher he was two years ago.
If the Blue Jays decide to non-tender Romano, it's not entirely over for the Canadian in Toronto. The team could work with Romano and his agent to bring the righty back on a reformatted deal. We saw the Milwaukee Brewers do exactly this with an injured Brandon Woodruff last year. -Bannon
This could be interesting for the Blue Jays since they can sign him to a deal with a team option and depending on how 2025 goes they can take it from there next off-season.
The reason why non-tendering him makes sense is because he had multiple set backs during his recovery this past season and the chances of him returning to the pitcher he once was as he is set to turn 32 years old are slim.
One option for this deal is a multi-year, incentive-laden contract that protects the Blue Jays and still allows Romano to earn his full value if healthy and effective. I'm thinking of a one-year deal with a vesting option (based on innings pitched) for 2026, plus significant bonuses for surpassing certain innings or games finished milestones. -Bannon
As the Blue Jays are looking to improve their bullpen drastically this off-season, the chances of them brining Romano back at $7.75 million next season are very slim.
