The Toronto Blue Jays announced that pitcher Max Scherzer is still dealing with a thumb injury and there is a chance that he will miss the start of the season.
The Blue Jays will likely replace Max Scherzer with Yariel Rodriguez to start the season
The Blue Jays are currently in a tough spot when it comes to losing Max Scherzer since they do not exactly have any solid substitution to replace him if he needs more time to recover.
If
Scherzer ends up being hurt for longer than expected, there is a good chance that the Blue Jays end up starting the season with Yariel Rodriguez in the starting lineup despite the fact that he has had a tough Spring Training.
I guess Yariel Rodriguez moves into the rotation if Scherzer isn't ready for the season?
Depth potentially being tested before the season starts
The other option could be Ryan Yarbrough but since Rodriguez has a lot more experience as a starting pitcher, he will likely be their top option to replace Scherzer for the start of the season.
Ryan Yarbrough or Yariel Rodríguez is your SP5 to begin the season.
The Blue Jays clearly have some serious issues when it comes to starting pitcher depth since they will have lean on
Rodriguez who currently have a 9.31 ERA in Spring Training.
The best case would be that Scherzer's injury is not too serious but that does not seem to be the case and even if it is, the Blue Jays need to take a look at their pitcher depth because they will be in serious trouble if another pitcher goes down.
