The Toronto Blue Jays were able to improve their offense quite a bit this off-season but they are still missing a few pieces which is why it looks like they are looking to close six-time all-star J. D. Martinez.
The Blue Jays brought Anthony Santander this off-season who has been by far their biggest acquisition of the winter but many would argue that they still need to add at least one decent hitter before Opening Day.
The Blue Jays seems to be closing in on former Mets all-star JD Martinez
The free agent market does not have a ton of solid options left since Spring Training is almost over but without a doubt the best player left in former New York Mets JD Martinez.
The Blue Jays who could only benefit from bringing in more offense seem to be interested in bringing in Martinez which seems like a safe bet since they would be able to land him at a discount.
Adding Anthony Santander will help, but the Jays' offense been in decline ever since Teoscar Hernández and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. left town a few years ago. So it's clear the Jays should add one more player to help prevent that falloff again, and that player is designated hitter J.D. Martinez. -Eng
Despite being on the backend of his career, Martinez still finished last season in New York with 16 homeruns, 69 RBIs and a .320 on base percentage in 120 games during the 2024 season.
Martinez is also a 6 time all-star who was won two Silver Slugger awards while also finishing fourth in American League MVP voting back in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox.
After all, the 14-year veteran is a six-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner who finished fourth in AL MVP voting back in 2018. He's averaged 30+ home runs and 100+ RBI over a full 162-game schedule in his career, so it's clear he is a big-time producer. -Eng
While Martinez might not be the same player he once was, adding him at a cheap price could only help the Blue Jays offense and if it does not, they just let him go which is why this move seems to be quite risk free.
