The Toronto Blue Jays may be facing a problem when it comes to contract discussions as they witnessed their archrival the Boston Red Sox sign their ace pitcher Garrett crotchet to a new contract extension.
The 25-year-old starter signed a six-year deal worth $170 million which puts the Blue Jays on notice as they are currently dealing with two of their superstars in Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero junior who are set to become free agents at the end of the year.
Crotchet's deal may cause trouble for Blue Jays with signings
Crotchet is considered as one of their best power arms with the Red Sox which puts him on the similar plain as Bichette and Guerrero junior for the Blue Jays.
Both young men are considered the Blue Jays best players and if crotchet was able to sign a major deal at the age of 25, it's likely the Blue Jays could pay more for Bichette and Guerrero JR as other players sign their new deals.
Over the past couple of weeks, rumors and stories have been swirling around the Rogers Centre that the Blue Jays had another contract offer sent Guerrero Jr, which was reported to be still a gap between both parties.
As for Bichette, it was reported earlier this winter that no negotiations have been taking place between the young star and the Blue Jays and it appears that nothing has changed since that reporting.
Blue Jays playing good baseball despite dark clouds
The Blue Jays find themselves with a record of five dash 2 and had recently swept the Washington Nationals which has given Blue Jays fans a good feeling in the opening days of the new season.

Despite the storm clouds approaching with regards to these contract talks, the Blue Jays are powering through and giving fans a nice start.
The Blue Jays now will face tougher opponents as their 10-game road trip is set to begin in Flushing NY against the New York Mets. They will also face crotchet and the Red Sox along with the Orioles once again before returning to Toronto on April 14th to play against the Atlanta Braves.
The team will now see how they match up against their American League rivals and the Mets who have all retooled their teams to be far better this season.
